Obviously Israel must
defend itself against
rockets launched by Hamas groups from
Gaza Strip; it is in its
duty to do so.
However, what is
to be harshly criticized is the way
and the war power Israeli armed forces are using against the population of Gaza
causing an unprecedented death
toll which amounts to hundreds of fatal victims, including – what is so
regrettable - unprotected civilian children, adults and
old people. These actions are
not sheer war actions at
all. They rather seem to
me actions against humanitarian
rights even considering two
fighting peoples in the gloomy
conflict.
If Israel people
could look back to the atrocities they were victims of
during the Holocaust days in the Second World War, they would probably
seek to change their attitudes now, as by so doing, before the
eyes of the world
community, their image has been seriously damaged, especially having
in mind the historical circumstance that the country is worldwide known as theb Holy Land, Christ’s birthplace. What about the place of religion the aim of which is to keep
peace and avoid violence among
people and nations.
By setting the bad
example of a fighting merciless country launching powerful missiles reaching the
population of Gaza, thus
destroying houses and buildings by reducing them
to havoc in scenes that bring us to the awful memories of the
two world wars, Israel will never gain the solidarity and the approval
of civilized world nations. Far otherwise.
They will be seen as a warlike
country and even as a nation
that does not respect universal
human rights.
Of course, the
position taken by
Israel’s government has
already shown some
bad consequences of their
acts: plane flights scheduled to
destination in Tel Avis
have been cancelled. International tourism will
suffer a lot of financial losses. In my view, these are some of the terrible consequences
that will soon be felt
by Israelis, not to mention others.
According to
international analysts, the
recent incident causing
destruction of a school building for refugees maintained
by U.N. shall have a bad
aftermath, since this world
institution, so to speak, was disrespected in what it
stands for before all nations
comprising it.
To make things
worse, Ygar Palmer, Israel’s Foreign
Ministry spokesman came the point of slamming our diplomacy as the
“diplomacy of dwarf!, thus underestimating Brazil’s international position
for recalling his ambassador to Israel for consultation at
the Itamaraty.
On the other hand,
its is beyond my human understanding
that a country whose people preach
Judaism is able to
allow itself to these inhuman
military actions. I do not deny that
Hamas groups are blameless
either. They too have their
own defects and wrongdoings, but what is at
stake is the real fact that there is a disproportional degree of violence between Israel and
Gaza Strip. To give a simple glimpse of
this disproportion, I may refer the reader to the present casualties
between the two opposing
forces, and chiefly the number
of dead
people victims of Israel's armed forces.
International world
organisms, such as the U.N. should not stand with arms across before this carnage.
Something must be done urgently and those who are to be held responsible for the atrocities must be rightly
punished for their deeds. And
believe the world shall not certainly comply with these
wrongdoings.
An immediate U.N.
intervention should take place,
not through the use of force, unless things
get worse and the amount of victims increases endlessly. What we
cannot stand any longer
is the present unsustainable situation.
In view of all
this tense moments
humanity is going through and which does not
restrict itself only to the
regions of Gaza and Israel, I want to
believe the organisms of
peace and security shall find a way, firstly to an immediate cease fire, secondly, to a meeting
of the Security Council of the
United Nations to put and end to the unstable
and afflicting situation The world is tired and revolted of
ever watching on TVs around the world
the regrettable scenes of crowds carrying the corpses of their beloved
ones on pieces of wood like stretchers
along the roads in Gaza.
There cannot be so
distressing scenes like these - a shame
before the eyes of mankind. And
these ghastly scenes are a true example
of how far we are of reaching
a desired stage of human behavior
precisely at the present time the world has
shown such tremendous advances in the field of science and technology, but at the same time
has seen a very dark
and savage stage of living
without peace and respect towards
one’s fellow creatures. What a pity! “Oh,
mankind!,” Herman Melville (1819-1891), a north-American novelist, essayist and
poet, would rightly say, to repeat what I use to write to express my
indignation against violence and injustice anywhere.

Israel deve, sim, defender-se de
foguetes lançados pelo Hamas da Faixa de
Gaza. Está no seu direito.
Entretanto, o que
não posso deixar de censurar duramente é a forma
de fazer guerra contra a população de
Gaza, numa estatística de mortes sem precedente e lamentável por fazer
vítimas de suas armas crianças,
adultos e velhos desprotegidos. Tais
ações não são meras ações de guerra apenas. A
mim me parecem antes ações contra os
direitos humanitários, mesmo se consideramos que os dois
povos se encontram num
conflito sombrio.
Se os israelenses pudessem retroceder
às atrocidades de que foram vítimas
no Holocausto durante Segunda Guerra Mundial, provavelmente procurariam mudar suas atitudes hoje, pois, agindo como o fazem, diante do olhar da comunidade mundial, sua
imagem tem sido seriamente
prejudicada, em especial tendo
em mente a circunstância
histórica de que o país é
mundialmente conhecido como a
Terra Santa, o berço-natal de
Cristo.
Dando um
exemplo de país beligerante e impiedoso,
que lança mísseis poderosos atingindo
a população de Gaza, destruindo habitações e edifícios e os
reduzindo a escombros numa cena que nos
traz à memória horripilante de duas guerras mundiais no passado, Israel jamais poderá
conseguir a solidariedade e a
aprovação das nações civilizadas do mundo. Muito ao contrário. Serão vistos como um país belicoso e até uma nação que não respeita
os direitos humanos universais.
Decerto, a posição
assumida pelo governo de Israel
já causou algumas consequências ruins devido às suas ações: voos marcados para Tel Aviv foram cancelados. Assim, o turismo internacional sofrerá pesados prejuízos. A meu ver, estas
são algumas das sérias
consequências que logo se
farão sentir, para não mencionar
outras.
De acordo com analistas internacionais, o recente incidente provocando
destruição de uma escola
para refugiados mantida pela
ONU, terá péssimos desdobramentos, já que
essa instituição mundial, por assim dizer, foi
desrespeitada no que
representa diante das nações que a constituem. Para piorar
ainda mais, o porta-voz do Ministério do Exterior israelense, Igar
Palmer, chegou ao ponto de chamar a
diplomacia brasileira de “diplomacia de
anão,” subestimando, dessa maneira, a posição brasileira no que diz
respeito ao conflito palestino
–israelense e por haver chamado nosso
embaixador em Israel para consultas no Itamaraty.
Por outro lado,
está além da minha compreensão humana que um país cujo povo
prega o judaísmo seja capaz de permitir-se estes atos militares
desumanos. Não nego que o Hamas
seja isento de culpas tampouco. Ele tem igualmente seus defeitos
e ações deletérias, porém o que está em
discussão é o fato de que há um
grau desproporcional de violência entre Israel e a Faixa de Gaza. Para um simples
exemplo desta desproporção, chamo a atenção do leitor para as baixas atuais entre as dois forças adversárias, e
sobretudo o número de mortos
vítimas das forças armadas israelenses.
Organismos internacionais com as Nações Unidas não
deveriam ficar de braços cruzados
diante desta carnificina. Algo tem que
ser feito com urgência e os
responsáveis pelas atrocidades
devem ser punidos legalmente.
Uma
imediata intervenção das Nações
Unidas deve ser feita, não com o usos da força, a menos que as
coisas piorem e o número de vítimas
aumente indefinidamente, O que
não se pode é suportar mais esta situação insustentável.
Diante dos
momentos de tensão que a humanidade atravessa e que não se restringe apenas
às regiões de Gaza e Israel,
quero crer que os organismos de paz e segurança hão de
encontrar um caminho, prime iro a
de um cessar-fogo imediato, depois,
uma reunião do Conselho de
Segurança das Nações Unidas a fim de pôr termo a esta situação
instável e aflitiva.
O mundo está
cansado e revoltado de
assistir continuamente pela
TV as cenas abomináveis de
multidões carregando os corpos
de seus entes queridos sobre tábuas de madeira como se fossem macas
pelas ruas de Gaza.
Não podem existir cenas tão angustiantes
como essas – uma vergonha diante dos olhos da humanidade. E essas cenas terríveis são um exemplo
autêntico de quão distantes estamos
de alcançar um estágio
desejado de comportamento
humano exatamente no momento
em que o mundo tem mostrado tantos
avanços no campo científico-tecnológico e, de outro lado, um estágio
sombrio e selvagem de viver sem paz e respeito para com nossos semelhantes. Que pena! “Oh, humanidade,!” diria com justiça
Helman Melville, escritor norte-americano, para repetir
o que costumo escrever a fim
de expressar minha indignidade contra
a violência e a injustiça em toda a parte.
