For some time now I have not returned to deal with this subject, I mean, the hard tribulations experienced by the Syrians still under the control of the dictator Bashar Al-Assad. The only fact I know is that the opposition against him still goes through a strong resistance in trying to take the power from the bloody hands of the violent strong man of the country, who remains insensitive, sometimes only showing a mocking simile, indifferent to the fate of hundreds of people whose deaths, by order of his army, have been brought about pitilessly.
A wasted land in its architectural topography, in its buildings, in its homes, in short, in its infrastructure of facilities which should be rendered to the local population and what is always and most grievous in the repeated and accumulated losses of innocent lives during all this period of civil war, The worst of all this are not the material losses of course, but the human tragedy itself, with the loss of the least conditions of survival. Why, a country the population of which cannot foresee what, instantly, can happen to it, is left haunted all the time for fear of bombing blasts of all types of modern weapons thrown against what the government calls the opposition enemy forces. This Nero of modernity is able to have bombs explode in places and, in a communiqué, declares the blasts were thrown by what he labels “the rebels”. The latest news from the dictation’s actions that have come to my knowledge refers that he was injured in an attack of the opposition side. I wonder if this was no more than speculation, as the news coming from the country have difficulties in being broadcast due to information control mechanisms of the government.
The reader can realize that, so far, I have not mentioned anything about international organizations that should take drastic steps against the dictator. In my view, everything diplomatically has already tried by the organization of the United Nations (UN) and its Security Council. However, as far as I know, nothing that I might seem as concrete actions has been done in order to minimize the pain of the Syrian people who, I had better say, are divided between those who stand up for the government and are so conniving with the dictator’s atrocities and those who vehemently reject bloodshed in the old Syria.
Now and then, a piece of news is given by the north American government reporting that the country is going to harden with the tragedy of the civil war in Syria. Nevertheless, what a contradiction of a country which attacked, without fair reasons, Iraq, in a deed resulting from a gross mistake of its foreign policy and, in the case of Syria, nothing of utmost importance has been done to reduce the hardships of Syrian society unfortunately now split in its political wishes. The United States, still in its position of world leadership in terms of weapon power, has truly the duty, combined with other countries making up the United Nations organization to help the opponents to overthrow Bashar Al Assad’s authoritarian regime. It seems to me, however that the United States, with all the internal problems still unsolved, specially the economic ones, fear entering with firm strength in the Syrian conflict.
In the meantime, the civil war among countrymen goes on violently, inhumanly, forlorn to their own fate of limited possibilities and available attack power counter-attacked by Al Assad’s heavier weapons with the possibilities of using or having used chemical ones. Diplomatic representatives from the United Nations and from other international organizations of peace, from the International Red Cross Aid, oftentimes have been talking in Damasco with the authoritarian government and, as a result, have not got practically almost nothing as far as negotiations are concerned. I wonder: what has resulted positively of everything that has so far been tried to secure peace along diplomatic negotiations so as to put an end to the Syrian dictatorship.
The United Nations has only acted to get harmless negotiations. Will not the dictator draw back and give up the benefits and privileges entailed by power? Is he an unbeatable tyrant? All this leads me to think this issue over, i.e., surely the dictator has the military support of some countries it has diplomatic relations with, obviously because of economic and political reasons, whether it be Russia, or China, thus giving the impression of being undefeated?
The dictator’s images that, from time to time, are shown on TV news show him smartly dressed and with a countenance apparently serene which does not correspond to the atrocities and horrors that Syrian society has gone through.
These strange images of his captured by us prove they are fake images of his countenance, a sham of a haunted reality of a kind of genocide of a man who looks like being for ever kept in his position of a true death’s man of his own people.
To us is left to remain disappointed, expecting that international seriousness and justice and their most competent organizations may meditate deeply on the sad fate of a people who have been for two years the sacrificed victims of a single man whose insensitivity hovers on human pain. May they not simply meditate but join efforts in this globalized world with a view to dismantle the Syrian dictatorship and redeem its people from “captivity” and from the severest hardships and sufferings, at least for those who, not having got to migrate to Turkey, or other neighboring country, have left behind them some marks of the blood shed from dead bodies of children, youngsters, adults and aged people, and gone in pursuit of a long time cherished dream of peace of body and soul.(A translaton of this article is shown below)
Como está a Síria?

Há tempos não volto a esse assunto, as atribulações experimentadas pelos sírios ainda sob o controle do ditador Bashar Al-Assad. Só sei que a oposição ainda resiste a uma tomada do poder nas mãos ensanguentadas do atrabiliário homem forte do país, impassível, por vezes mesmo esboçando um sorriso esgar , indiferente á sorte das centenas de mortes que, por determinação de seu exército, têm sido ceifadas sem dó nem piedade.
Terra arrasada na sua topografia arquitetônica, nas suas edificações, nas sua moradias, enfim, na sua infraestrutura de serviços que deveriam ser prestados à população, e, o que é muito e sempre gravíssimo nas repetidas e acumuladas perdas de vidas inocentes durante todo esse período de guerra civil. Não são as perdas materiais as piores sem dúvida, mas sim a tragédia humana, com a perda das mínimias condições de vida e sobrevivência. Ora, um país cuja população não pode prever o que, de um minuto para outro, pode lhe acontecer de desgraça, vive sobressaltado a todo instante por explosões de todo tipo de armas modernas lançadas contra o que o governo chama de opositores. Esse Nero da atualidade é capaz de mandar explodir bombas em lugares e, em comunicado, afirmar que as explosões partiram do que ele denomina cinicamente de “rebeldes.” As últimas notícias de que vim a saber referem que o ditador, num ataque da oposição, ficou ferido.Não sei se isso não passa de especulação, pois as notícias que vêm de lá encontram dificuldades de transmissão seguramente pelos mecanismos de controle de informação do governo.
O leitor pode perceber que, até aqui, não mencionei nada sobre organismos internacionais que deveriam ter tomado as providências drásticas contra o ditador. Tudo, no meu juízo, já foi tentado pela ONU e seu Conselho de Segurança. Mas, pelo que se vê, nada de mais concreto se tem feito para diminuir a dor dos sírios, aliás, divididos entre os que fazem coro com as atrocidades do ditador e outros que se lhe opõem veementemente pelo derramamento de sangue na velha Síria.
De vez em quando, uma notícia parte do governo norte-americano declarando que o país irá endurecer com a tragédia da guerra civil na Síria. Entretanto, que contradição de um país que atacou , sem razões imperiosas, o Iraque, num cometimento de um erro crasso de sua política externa e, para o caso da Síria, nada de grande importância tem feito para minimizar as agruras da sociedade síria infelizmente dividida nas suas aspirações políticas. Os EUA, ainda na sua condição de líder mundial, tem , sim , o dever, somado a outros países que fazem parte da ONU, de conseguir ajudar os opositores ao regime discricionário de Bashar Al Assad e apeá-lo do poder. Ma, me parece que os EUA , com todos os problemas internos a resolver, sobretudo os financeiros, receiam entrar com mais firmeza no conflito dos sírios.
Enquanto isso, a guerra civil entre irmãos da mesma pátria prossegue violenta, desumana, entregue à própria sorte das possibilidades e poder de ataque dos opositores contrapostos com as armas mais pesadas do ditador com possibilidade de usar, ou ter usado, armas químicas. Representantes diplomáticos da ONU, de outros organismos internacionais pacíficos, da Cruz Vermelha Internacional, já por várias vezes estiveram em Damasco, conversaram com o governo autoritário e de concreto praticamente nada sobrou.. Será que nada que se tem feito, no plano diplomático de negociações, serviu , até agora, para por um ponto final à ditadura síria? A ONU, o seu Conselho de Segurança, só têm servido para tentativas de negociações inócuas. Será que nada faz o ditador recuar e desistir do fascínio e das benesses do poder usurpado? Será Bashar Al Assad um déspota invencível? Dá o que pensar, seguramente o ditador conta com o apoio de países e de ajuda militar e política, seja a Rússia, seja a China, e com isso dá a impressão de inexpugnável? As imagens do ditador que, de vez em quando, surgem nos noticiários da televisão mostram-no bem vestido, com olhar de aparente tranquilidade que não correspondem às atrocidades e aos horrores vividos pela sociedade síria.
Estranhas essas imagens que dele captamos, o que prova ser a imagem uma contrafação, um simulacro da realidade assombrosa, uma espécie de genocídio de um homem que semelha sustentar-se eternamente na sua posição de senhor verdugo do seu próprio povo.
Resta-nos, despontados, aguardar que a seriedade, a justiça internacional, os seus organismos mais competentes reflitam maduramente sobre a triste sina de que há dois anos vem sendo vítima da imolação de um único homem cuja insensibilidade paira acima das dores humanas. Que não só reflitam, porém congreguem esforços, neste mundo globalizado, no sentido de desbaratar a ditadura síria e redimir do “cativeiro” e da extrema aflição e sofrimento, pelo menos os que, não tendo conseguido migrar para a Turquia ou outro país vizinho, deixaram para trás o rastro de sangue das mortes de crianças, jovens, adultos e idosos à procura da tão sonhada paz da alma e do corpo.
